For over 30 years ASSAM has been carrying out experimental trials on commercial varieties of durum and soft wheat, barley and coarse grains to identify those better suiting the Marche Region environment and fulfilling the market demand. Field trials and laboratory analysis are essential for effectively evaluate their quality, agrobiological, productive and market characteristics as well as their sensitivity to the main plant diseases.
The performed activities are:
Agronomic field trials
Variety comparison field trials, on traditional cultivars in different environments, of durum and soft wheat, barley, autumn oats, triticale and organic durum and soft wheat.
Trials are carried out in collaboration with the CRA-QCE of Rome (Research and Experimental Agriculture Centre) the CERMIS of Tolentino (Research and Experimental Centre for Plant Improvement) and the Marche Polytechnic University.
• Feeding techniques by different dosages of some chemical nitrogeneted fertilizers in indoor settings with/without fungicide treatments at the beginning of flowering;
• Variety comparison and agronomic field trials on commission basis.
Quality Monitoring
• cereal quality monitoring on durum wheat samples collected from regional farms, in collaboration with the Local Agrometeorological Centre;
• regional production monitoring within the “Durum wheat Marche Quality Project” and management of a network checking lots in regional storage centers.
Chain projects
Technical-scientific support to cereals chain projects.
Cereals analysis
The ASSAM agrochemical laboratory analyses samples of grains and flours of durum and soft wheat and other cereals to assess the quantitative, qualitative and rheological features of tested and monitored products also on a commission basis.
QUINOA
In 2015 ASSAM carried out trial tests on “Quinoa” to assess its soil and climate adaptations, the most effective growing techniques and the possible protection from insects and weeds.
The tests aims at evaluating the introduction of Quinoa cultivation in the Marche Region farms, to diversify crop rotation as well as to advise on an innovative and sustainable agriculture able to safeguard the environmental and food safety .
