The DORY project has been funded in the framework of the Interreg VA Italy – Croatia 2014-2020 Cooperation Programme and is aimed to capitalize the positive results obtained with the ECOSEA project (Adriatic IPA CBC Programme 2007-2013) in which the Marche Region was involved as partner. DORY overall objective is to contribute to the protection and restoration of Adriatic marine resources by strengthening the Adriatic institutional dialogue and promoting the adoption of common management models for sustainable fisheries, oriented to reduce the threats of economic activities on Adriatic marine stocks, as well as knowledge based tools to enhance biodiversity in terms of priority and essential fish habitats (nurseries and spawning grounds) and to halt the ecological impact of aquaculture.
The project foresees:
- the implementation of the cross-border model for Adriatic sustainable fisheries management developed under ECOSEA tested on two additional overexploited and relevant commercial stocks (Solea solea,Sepia officinalis) to define possible common management measures to be shared with the stakeholders.
- the testing of the advanced MSP tool DISPLACE in project area to evaluate common management measures potential impacts in Adriatic, define and transfer to key actors a range of options to increase protection and conservation measures;
- the implementation of pilot activities to enhance nursery areas and reduce the aquaculture activities ecological impact.
Moreover, DORY foresees knowledge exchange activities and the mainstreaming of the tested science based and ecosystem approach into fisheries policies programming and implementation framework.
